Our Timber Frame Structure
At OX Timber Frame Homes, we design, manufacture and erect timber frame structures built around your architectural plans.

Every OX frame starts with your architectural drawings. Our team develops the structural design and manufacturing details around the layout, dimensions and requirements of your build.

This includes the external and internal walls, floor and roof structures, and any engineered steel supports required.
Your package includes a bespoke structural timber frame engineering design and independent structural engineering report validation.

Whether you are building one home or delivering a development, the approach stays the same: Careful planning, skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail.
What goes into an OX Timber Frame wall?
Every layer has a job to do: A timber frame wall is more than timber and insulation. It is a carefully designed system in which each component contributes to the strength, warmth and performance of the home.
Our wall build-up can include structural timber studs, OSB sheathing, insulation, an airtight or vapour-control layer, a service cavity, battens and internal plasterboard.
The exact build-up is agreed for the individual project. Our typical 140mm wall specification can achieve a U-value of 0.15 W/m²K, helping to create the building fabric required for a high-performing home.
A lower U-value means less heat passes through that part of the building.

Two Different Types of Frame to Suit Your Build
The insulation and airtightness built into your walls play an important part in how your home performs. We offer two insulation packages alongside our core timber frame package, giving you a choice of specification for your build.

Standard insulation package
Our Standard package combines insulation between the timber studs with a continuous layer of rigid insulation and an airtight vapour control membrane. 140mm Frametherm mineral wool insulation between the studs 25mm PIR rigid insulation board Partel Izoperm Plus airtight vapour control layer 38mm service cavity for wiring and services Wall U-value: 0.17 W/m²K

Premium insulation package
Our Premium package increases the thickness of the continuous rigid insulation layer to further reduce heat loss through the walls. 140mm Isover timber frame roll insulation between the studs 50mm high-performance PIR rigid insulation board Partel Izoperm Plus airtight vapour control layer 38mm service cavity for wiring and services
A strong start for an A-rated home

A well-insulated, airtight structure helps create the building fabric needed for an energy-efficient home. Both packages are designed to support that approach, with the Premium option providing additional wall insulation.

Your final BER rating depends on the completed home as a whole, including its windows, roof and floor insulation, airtightness, ventilation and heating systems. We’ll work from your plans to develop the timber frame package for your project.
Sustainability
Timber is a renewable building material which, when responsibly sourced, can help reduce the embodied carbon of a home.

As trees grow, they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This carbon remains stored within the timber while it is used as part of the building’s structure. Timber also generally requires less energy to process than materials such as concrete and steel.

At OX Timber Frame Homes, each frame is carefully manufactured off-site to the individual project. This controlled process helps us use materials efficiently, reduce waste on site and create the well-insulated, airtight building fabric needed for an energy-efficient home.

It means sustainability is considered both in how your home is built and how it performs once you are living in it.
